Ron DeSantis has asked seniors and anyone with underlying medical issues throughout the state to remain home to protect themselves from the coronavirus, reports WFLA . "If you're 65 or older or if you have seriously underlying condition — such as serious heart conditions, chronic lung disease, if you have some problems with your immune system — regardless of where you are in the state, stay at home," the governor recommended during a Wednesday news conference. "Let's let everyone work on this and be very careful who you're coming in contact with." DeSantis added that younger people and those without an underlying condition are at considerably less risk of infection. He also said he was pleased that the Trump administration and federal officials are backing his executive orders asking travelers from the New York tri-state area to self-isolate for 14 days upon arrival in Florida. DeSantis also stressed the issue of hospital bed space, noting that Florida is currently at 35 percent capacity, and at 33 percent capacity for intensive care unit beds for adults.
